Come along to our Open Evening to hear more about our training in parent infant psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Mother and baby

This is a fascinating and rewarding field of work, where early interventions help to promote the healthy development of the child. Our graduates work in private practice and a variety of early years settings. Our graduates are eligible to be registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

During 2017 the School received its regular five-yearly review by the UKCP. On completion the reviewing committee offered the School 'its warmest congratulations and good wishes for the further development of your important work within the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy'.

We are currently accepting applications for our next intake in September 2018.

We encourage applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. The training is at postgraduate level and so a first degree is desirable, but not essential. What is more important is an interest in helping infants to reach their full potential.

Your training will include four years of theory seminars on child development, psychoanalysis and parent infant psychotherapy. You will also undertake a two year baby observation and spend time observing in four early years settings. You will undertake 450 hours of clinical work under supervision. Your own personal psychotherapy will be an important part of your training.

Suitably qualified individuals can claim credits for prior learning, which may reduce the course requirements and in some circumstances may shorten the length of the training.

Please note that, in common with most similar trainings, the overall length of the training depends upon completion of the clinical component. In some cases this will extend the training beyond the period of theory seminars. Potential applicants need to take into account the time and financial commitment that this may bring.

Our training is available in person in London and online. Both routes are recognised by the UKCP and either can lead to registration with that body. This is a unique training that attracts trainees from elsewhere in the UK and from overseas.
