Certificate or Diploma module

PA 2 - Further concepts in psychoanalysis

Introduction to the module

This module can be taken either as part of the School's Diploma in Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy or as a stand-alone one-year certificate course.1

The three terms build upon a basic knowledge by exploring object relations and attachment theory, and by considering a psychoanalytic approach to various psychopathologies and to therapeutic technique.

The seminars can be attended in London or online. Copies of relevant texts are provided in advance of the seminars.

Why this module?

Join this module to build upon your understanding of psychoanalysis, including the application of this modality to therapeutic work as a psychodynamic counsellor of therapist.

1This is a module from the School's UKCP-recognised Diploma in Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Theory seminars within the Diploma are divided into two streams - Parent Infant Psychotherapy (PIP) and Psychoanalysis (PA). Some modules from these streams are also made available as stand-alone certificate courses.

Start date
The next entry to this module is in September 2017.

The module consists of 15 fortnightly seminars arranged over three terms.

In person at 27 Frognal, London NW3 1AD or remotely via the internet.

As a stand-alone certificate

Anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of psychoanalysis. The module requires a basic level of knowledge of this approach.

After this module

After successful completion, certificate trainees may join module PA 3. That module looks at further Kleinian developments, considers an intercultural perspective to psychoanalysis and explores some non-psychoanalytic therapeutic modalities.

Any of these modules can count towards the School's Diploma in Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. This diploma can lead to registration with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy as a parent infant psychoanalytic psychotherapist.
