Safeguarding Children

Saturday November 4th 2017
Langorf Hotel, 20 Frognal, London NW3 6AG

11am - 5pm

Safeguarding children and protecting them from harm is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play. There can be particular concerns for therapists and other professionals who work with families in which there are infants and younger children.

We are very pleased to welcome Gretchen Precey to conduct this one-day training. Gretchen is an independent social worker, trainer and consultant specialising in child protection. She has provided training nationally for child welfare professionals for the past 18 years.

By the end of the day, you will have:

  • Gained some basic information about the legislative framework within which children’s welfare is safeguarded and promoted
  • Increased your understanding of the forms that child abuse takes and the signs of concern
  • Enhanced your skills in responding where there are concerns about a child who is suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm, including making sound decisions about when and how to refer to Children’s Services
  • Learnt about dealing with disclosures from children and young people
  • Explored some of the dilemmas around consent
  • Understood some risks to yourself as a professional
