Talking on sharing rhythms of life and learning

Colwyn Trevarthen

April 17th 2021

10.30am-12pm

A Zoom link will be sent in advance of the day.

£35

Professor Colwyn Trevarthen has published on brain development, infant communication and emotional health. He believes that very young babies rapidly develop proto-cultural intelligence through interacting with other people, including in teasing fun play. For instance he has demonstrated that a newborn has an innate ability to initiate a dialogic relationship with an adult, and then build up this relationship through eye contact, smiling, and other holistic body functions rhythmically and cooperatively.

Acquarone detection scale for early relationships

Stella Acquarone

May 15th 2021

10.30am-12pm

A Zoom link will be sent in advance of the day.

£35

Dr Stella Acquarone is an Adult, Child and Parent Infant Psychotherapist, her focus is on awareness, to promote better early identification and intervention. After working as a child psychotherapist in the NHS for 32 years, she left to offer parents help based on her insights about the neglected importance of early detection. Rather than going too quickly with therapeutic approaches, she began from her realisation that parents were identifying unusual children: unsmiling ones, fearful ones, those who didn’t want to be picked up’. Stella’s special expertise is in the early signs of autism, before pathology develops. Her point that ‘The issue is the potential, not the harmful’, encapsulates her approach.
